One of *the* great underrated electronica releases of the 90s. The duo both traded in numerous electronic subphylum and was beholden to none; mutant 'jazz', thunderclap drum ''n' bass, cybernetic lounge, mysterious exotica, and strange, post-techno warblings ordered the day, yet the album is truly more than the sum of its parts. Bold, vivacious, literally bursting with ideas and teeming with an experimental zeal little demonstrated by even the hoariest proponents of electronic music, that this release merits hardly a footnote to this day isn't just unfortunate, it's criminal.

Ronnie and Clyde, on their only album IN GLORIOUS BLACK AND BLUE, put in a bass so heavy that it can leave a bruise. "Natural One" goes from that bass to some mysterious bleeping ("Natural Two" also gets into the abstract bleepiness), while the chorus that kicks off "Theme from a Lazy Life" before it's grounded by a jazzy double bass. "Bad Memory" heads into more happy territory, while "Nine Million Miles" slows things way down. "Macro-Scopic" brings the tempo to drum 'n' bass speed, and "Twice Removed" brings things back down with a gentle guitar riff. The long "From a Great Height" goes into spacey ambient dub before putting the beats through their paces. Finally, "The 33rd Caller" stays strictly mellow, wrapping up this underrated album quite nicely.
