Still one of my favourite songs after all these years, I can still remember hearing it for the first time at number four in John Peel’s 1982 Festive Fifty, and have just heard it again on Radio 6 a few minutes ago. Although the lyrics are fairly straightforward to decipher, I’ve always wondered about the story / meaning behind them. A Google search just now has elicited nothing, so maybe this will just be one of life’s mysteries...

Artery's single Afterwards b/w Into The Garden is for sure one of the 10 records I'd take on a remote island. The songs certainly were a must on any mix tape way into the 90s.
Speedy Afterwards, with a catchy bass line, fitting vocals and an edgy guitar. Quote: "It hit me like an avalanche". Thankfully, Les Temps Modernes included Afterwards on their Various / Crispy Ambulance - Black Music / Atlantic Crossing compilation.
Slower Into The Garden also features some great vocals over a heavy bass line - here underlined by a constant keyboard and accompanied / broken by the guitar. 5 minutes of pleasure.
Almost unbelievable that these 2 tracks are from 1981....
